Lower Ahobilam Temple

Garuda longed for a dream of Lord Nrisimha as the Avathara. To satisfy his desire, the Lord settled in the slopes around Ahobilam amidst thick woods in nine distinct structures. Hence this slope came to be known as Garudadri, Garudachalam, and Garudasailam.

Ahobilam is the spot where the Lord murdered Hiranyakasipu and spared Prahalada. Mahalakshmi took avathar as Senjulakshmi among the Senju, tribal seekers of the slopes, and wedded the Lord.

Sri Ahobila Muth, a standout amongst the most essential Sri Vaishnava religious foundations in India, was set up by Sri Athivan Satakopan at the directions of Lord Lakshmi Nrisimha of Ahobilam. Indeed, the utsava moorthy of the Malola Nrisimha sanctuary, one of the nine hallowed places of Ahobilam, is the managing divinity of Sri Ahobila Mutham. Sri Malolan goes with Srimad Azhagiya Singar, the otherworldly and main head of Sri Ahobila Mutham, on his voyages.

Thirumangai Azhvaar has sung ten verses about this sanctuary in Periya Thirumozhi.

Sthala Puranam

The Himalayas ascend high to the Everest in the north while the furthest south of India demonstrates the remote ocean - rather fellowship of the three seas. The western area and the eastern locale of the Peninsular India, then again, while decreasing towards Kanyakumari, show an extensive variety of mountains known as Western Ghats present wholesome landscapes and gutsy travel both by rail and street, the Eastern Ghats show beautiful perspective as well as exhibit heavenliness too. The Eastern Ghats are compared to the immense serpent Adhisesha luxuriating in the sun with its head (or hood) at Thirumala, its center at Ahobilam and its last part partition at Srisailam - all the three with popular sanctuaries on them.

The subject we have before us is Ahobilam. Obviously, Thirupathi and Srisailam are additionally frequented journey focuses. Ahobilam on account of this unique issue. Mahabharatha; as well as old puranas like Koorma Purana, Padma Purana and Vishnu Purana notice about Ahobilam and its managing divinity Narasimha. Truth be told, Brahmanda Purana says that this spot was at one time the royal residence of Hiranyakasipu who was killed by Sriman Narayana showing as Narasimha from a column there for his staunch enthusiast Prahlada. Notions of time achieved the obliteration of the then existing structures yielding spot to nature's production of the mountain run that protected the site of incarnation as "Svayam Vyakta Kshetram" of Lord Narasimha.

As indicated by Stala Purana, there are two well known legends for the inference of the word 'Ahobilam'. It is expressed that the Devas (Gods), while seeing the fantastic angle (Ugra Kala), the master went up against keeping in mind the end goal to destroy Hiranyakasipu sung in His recognition as "Ahobala" (Lo: the quality). Thus this spot has come to be known as Ahobilam. In backing of this, there is a prapatthi sloka about-Ahobilam that peruses:-

"Aho Veeryam Aho Souryarn Aho Bahuparakramah "

Naarasimham Param Daivam Ahobilam Aho Balam.

The other rendition is that due to the colossal cavern, the Ahobila, where Garuda revered, did repentance and understood the ruler, the spot itself has come to be called Ahobilam. The Ahobilam "Kaifiyat" offers backing to this legend. (The Ahobilam Kaifiyat shaping a portion of Mackenzie accumulations gives extremely significant data with respect to the Ahobilam sanctuaries. Kaifiyats - the overviews from "Kaviles" or town registers containing data on the political, social, religious and different states of the towns in Deccan were set up by Pandits and Mussadis working under Col. Mackenzie.) The Ahobilam Kaifiyat is in Telugu and accessible in the State Archives at Hyderabad (vide "Ahobila Narasimhaswamy sanctuary" - Monograph by P. Sitapati, Commissioner of Archives).

According to this record, "On one of the mountains in the Nallamalai slopes range, eight amadas from Srisaila Kshetra, Garuda initiated noiseless retribution to get a dream of Lord Narasimha who pulverized Hiranyakasipu. The Lord in his beauty, after long years of the tapas of Garuda, showed Himself in the hole of a mountain".

"Ten "Paruvus" toward the north-east of the mountain, where Garuda was doing retribution, a dream of His indication was then conceded to Garuda, who subsequent to acquiring an indication of the area of the mountain-cavern, happily voyaged thither and saw the exemplification of the Sathsvaroopa,' Mahapurusha, Lord Jwalanarasimha - not effortlessly open to regular individuals. Garuda then loved the Lord and adulated him that 'Ahobilam is Mahabalam' (Ahobilam is an extraordinary sustainer with quality). The Lord's Divya Mangala Vigraha was venerated by him with a few sthotras-Garuda then viewed himself as favored after a dream of the Lord. This perfect place from that point acquired the meriting name of Ahobilam".

"The mountain on which Garuda performed tapas got to be popular as Garudachala. In the times of yore when truth and dharma won, incredible warmth was noticeable close to the mountain-hollow of Ahobila; as per legend when green grass was placed in the cavern, it would burst into flames and smoke would be transmitted. A few awesome Rishis lived there for a period; after at some point with the information that incredible spots would get to be normal Janapadas in the Kali age, they exited for northern grounds, concealing the Narasimha hole with rocks. Generally along these lines this spot is being known as the Narasimha Kshetra. There are along these lines nine Narasimha places, Nava-Narasimhas; Rishi-introduced and revering territories:

Jwala Ahobila Malola Kroda Karanja Bhargava

Yogananda Kshatravata Pavana Nava Moorthayaha.

The Nine Narasimhasthalas are :- 1. Jwala Narasimha 2. Ahobila Narasimha 3. Malola Narasimha 4. Kroda Narasimha 5. Karanja Narasimha 6. Bhargava Narasimha 7. Yogananda Narasimha 8. Kshatravata Narasimha and 9. Pavana or blessed Narasimha.

Before going by these nine holy places, let us perceive how we approach the spot. Arranged in the Nallamalai Hills, Ahobilam is around 24 Kms. from Allagadda Taluk Headquarters, 112 Kms. from Cudappah and 65 Kms. from Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh and can be come to by transport from Hyderabad furthermore by rail by means of Kurnool and after that by transport from that point. Long prior, the Tamil spiritualist minstrel, Thirumangai Azhwar sang that Singavel Kunram (Ahobilam) was available to none yet Gods.

Because of the endeavors of the current 45th Srimad Azhagiyasingar, the entrance courses to a few of the holy places have been extraordinarily streamlined such that individuals of various age gatherings are presently ready to visit the spots effortlessly. The entire complex is in two sections - one called Eguvu Ahobilam (Upper Ahobilam) with Nava Narasimha altars and the other called Diguvu Ahobilam (Lower Ahobilam) with a solitary hallowed place for Lakshmee Narasimha associated by a street, extending a separation of around 12.8 Kms. from Lower Ahobilam to Upper Ahobilam.
